Community supported initiatives are benefiting everyone. But most of all it is the quality of the food itself.
We’ve recently been on the lookout for more ways to support some amazing local food producers and integrating their products into our catering menus. Always keeping our eyes open for those who emphasise sustainability, community, and high-quality products. Two companies in particular caught our eye, for having these characteristics and more! Let us introduce to two of our favourites, Skipper Otto’s Community Supported Fishery and Meat Me;
Skipper Otto’s Community Supported Fishery
We first discovered Skipper Otto’s through Social Nature and were so excited to have found a business that truly connects consumers to their seafood and the people who catch it.
With Skipper Otto, you pay a yearly membership fee, and then purchase stocks up front. This system is designed to support the fishermen, guaranteeing their livelihood and making it easier for them to commit to fishing sustainable. With emails detailing the fresh catches that are currently available (or frozen fish availability), You can order online and then go pick up yourself from a variety of locations. Your seafood package will even tell you the name of the person who caught it! Pretty awesome, right?
So far, we’ve devoured some Chum Salmon and Halibut. Both incredibly delicious and of excellent quality. We’re looking forward to getting in our first order of B.C. Spot Prawns next week!
