Some will say Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Others will claim that anytime is a good time for sausage and eggs. Fact is, when it comes to breakfast, everybody has their own routine. Sites like pinterest and Instagram are overflowed with breakfast menu ideas. From traditional to haute-cuisine, breakfast is an hot item. There are restaurant line up’s for omelettes and bacon, Whole isles are dedicated to cereal in the grocery stores. But why is it so popular?

Did you know that Lumberjack breakfast comes from Vancouver?
While it has been a source of controversy where the lumberjack breakfast came from, the most cited source is that the lumberjack breakfast was first served in a Vancouver Hotel, in 1870. The breakfast consisted of eggs galore, assorted fried pork strips, slabs, slices, and flapjacks. It is said by Anita Stewart that the tradition of hearty cooking developed because of men needing the energy for manual labor
Everybody eats breakfast. technically.
It is the first meal of the day. But it was not until the 15th century that “breakfast” came into use in written English to describe a morning meal, which literally means to break the fasting period of the prior night; in Old English the term was “morgenmete” meaning morning meal. – Wikipedia
On that same page you will find endless stories about different cultures with their own breakfast traditions. So breakfast connects us with each other. Try it, instead of asking someone about the weather or last night. Ask what they had for breakfast. Good conversation guaranteed.
How about Brunch?
In 1895 the English taught brunch would be a great idea to have some good grub after church time. So that tea and scones could have their introduction a bit earlier than tea time. And that is how brunch was born. From Chinese dim-sum brunch to the traditional Friday brunch in Dubai. It does have it’s place all over the world.
Breakfast menu ideas for early morning or late brunch events

But I understand that coffee alone won’t give you the required energy to function for the whole day. If you want to host a brunch party, here are some good breakfast menu ideas that could do the trick.
- Keep it simple and rely on the classics if you have to cook for a crowd. There is nothing more nerving than experimenting new dishes for a big group.
- Consider sticking with
– a theme, (like continental, tapas, picnic)
– or cuisine (like Italian, Chinese, French or English)
- Have as much prepared a day ahead
- In case you are preparing for a pot luck, bring all the utensils and equipment needed

- Fritatta with tomato and spinach, topped with smoked salmon
- Chorizo, cherry tomato salad with arugula
- Salmon tartar with brioche bread
- Mini french toast cups
- Goats cheese and dill scones
- Oven baked ham and eggs with gruyere cheese
Even though it is considered a dinner item in Holland, pancakes are a great item on any menu. Because they are easy to prepare ahead of time. And they can be enjoyed sweet or savoury.
Since we put pancakes on the list, let’s add it’s Mexican counter part. Stuff the tortillas with beans, eggs and bacon, hot sauce and you have a feast!
